After a 7 or 8 (?) year hiatus, we’re bringing back the ‘King of the Mountain’ race to the Winter Carnival.  It’s an individual event designed to give someone bragging rights to being the best and most diverse slider on the mountain.  Contestants will make 3 runs down Red, each time on different gear: Tele, Alpine and Snowboard.  Guaranteed to be fun and not overly serious, come on out for a great time and a great cause!  $10 entry fees all of which will go to the Johan Kruus foundation.

Rossland Winter Carnival, Rossland

“Once a year the people of Rossland, one of Canada’s highest high-altitude cities, celebrate the fact that they live in the crater of an ancient volcano by hurling themselves down a steep, snowy residential street. The conveyance of choice, for most, is a snowmobile, with engine gutted to fit four riders and tracks replaced with something slicker, such as skis or metal pipes. Past Kootenay-kazes have piloted logs, canoes and even a grand piano down the precipitous course (a.k.a Spokane Street). The Bobsled Race,”

(quote from Westworld magazine BCAA)

.       WE NEED HELP – to run the John Heintz Cup.  It’s been one of our most popular events;  a 5 leg relay from the top of red to town including downhill, snowshoe, cross country, running & mountain biking.  A TRUE ROSSLAND EVENT.  Call Kelly 362-2210 if you can help and call the CHAMBER to register your team.

START PLANNING NOW for the new and improved snow sculpting competition.  This year we are offering $350 FIRST PRIZE, $150 SECOND PRIZE and adding tons of more prizes for  those that enter.

Entry deadline is JANUARY 15.  We will post addresses in the paper and then schedule of events so that everyone can cruise around town and check out the great snow art.    Call the Chamber 362-5666 to register
